Day 1

Image
Started testing my blood sugar today after my 2 1/2 appt at the diabetes clinic. Let's just say I'm being very careful trying to get creative (already!) but both my after lunch & after dinner numbers are high & I'm already frustrated. Mostly because I'm very very hungry. I can't wait til 9:30 when I can have a snack. That'll probably jack me for the morning but what can I do? Otherwise I will wake up at 3 or 4am with a very rumbly tummy. (This is a photo of some "snack packs" I put together today on advice of my nutritionist...some good things to 'munch on' for snack time. I thought it was a great idea until I saw how SMALL they are! Except the peanuts. Those are doable. Each pack is APPROXIMATELY 15g of carb which is one carb serving. My 'snacks' are one carb serving each. I think I could eat 12 of these...in one sitting...) I need to exercise more but I am a slow, fat, beached whale these days & the thought of doing someth...

Pet Dander + Dust + Windy Day =

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHCCCCCCCCCCCCHHHHHHHHHHHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO Currently I'm in the middle of a MASSIVE allergy attack. I think I've sneezed 5 or 600 times today, I'm going through the kleenexes like crazy, I have a headache, my eyes have that allergy glaze to them and it sucks. I took Beavis to the vet this morning (he's healthy, just geriatric!) which always sets me off - that combined with dusting & vacuuming the living room this morning + gusty autumn winds and there ya go. *sigh* The Claritan (pg approved) is not really doing much for me either. I suppose the only thing I can do is "test" another pumpkin bar.

Back in the Saddle

After several months of post-wedding-eating/non-dieting I think it's time to get back on that horse and be a little more thoughtful about what I eat and how much of it I eat. *sigh* And that's hard. Because I like to eat...but I also like to fit into my pants and not have a fat face so...I will try. I went back to calorie-counter.com after a long absence and have started tracking my calories & calorie burning activities again as of today. Oh and weight too. Doh. That hurt this morning but I know at least where I stand and where I'd like to be. Holiday eating is so much more fun.

It sucks when you can't bend down

My back is acting up. I've never had this problem before so I'm not sure what it is, what to do, etc. I woke up yesterday stiffer than usual (!) and all day it was difficult & painful to bend over, lift things, sit down, etc. I feel like someone is pressing downward on the lower part of my spine. Like I'm all compacted. It really sucks. It hurts to sneeze, it hurts to sit, it hurts to sit on the toilet, I keep dropping things and have to contort myself in order to pick things up. Not cool. I'm hoping that this is just something that will go away but I have a feeling it will not. Unfortunately I will not have time to go to the chiropractor until next week but I have a feeling I need a good adjustment (It's been years!). I hope that the drive to Faribault is too painful tomorrow (and the drive back on Saturday and that the soothing warmth & frothiness of some Tom & Jerry's on Christmas Eve will nurse me back to health. Steve said to me this morning, ...

I Can See Clearly Now!

Today I am wearing soft contacts again. I can't feel them! Hallelujah! Here's the story....when I first got contacts back in the 10th grade I opted for gas permeables as a couple of my friends had them and really liked them. They were more expensive in the present but lasted longer than soft contacts and therefore a better long term option price wise. Oh and my sister kept ripping her (non-disposable) soft contacts so my parents agreed that it was a good option. I had problems throughout high school with the contacts. Some days they were great - some days they caused me eye squinting shut agonizing pain. Some days they'd just pop out in the stairwell between classes. That was fun. My first year in Los Angeles I again was having contact/eye problems (It's an ongoing "theme"). I couldn't wear them so took them out at work and Lo and Behold! I could see! It was amazing. No glasses, no contacts for the first time since 3rd grade and I could see wonderfully! I ...
