25. The Life of Riley - Hour One

We watched the first 64 minutes of The Life of Riley yesterday. I must say I'm a little disappointed. There are so many things I wish I could've done differently if I had had my head screwed on right when we were shooting it. It's easy to say that now, a few months after the fact, but when it was happening I was under a lot of pressure for the usual (and unusual) sources and it was probably the most stressful, unpleasant things I've ever done. I think with some re-working, moving things around and cutting things that are dull & make it drag, it will be okay. There is really beautiful photography & some really great performances. Once we have the piece sound-designed & color corrected it will turn out a-okay. We're using a lot of really cool local music (& even some Martin Zellar music - finally!) which really adds to the piece. I'm excited for it to all be put together. Sometimes it's hard to see it as a whole when it's in pieces.

As far as the interview I posted yesterday - I should just say. There were 2 parts - if you didn't read part #2 on "Quiche Moraine" (the link is at the bottom of the "interview") then that might shed some light on it. The 2nd thing is Greg Laden who loved GOD ROCKED and was itching to do this write-up on WMW really wanted to interview Jason "in character." (insert whatever comments you deem appropriate here). I think the interview was...weird. I was expecting something completely different and was thinking "hmmmm, okay...." Whatever. I don't really care. I've discussed with a few friends and we all think it comes down to a certain part of the male anatomy and man's (well, a couple of them, anyway) need to constantly "one-up" each other. So, whatever. It's out there, it's another piece of a puzzle that's not particularly fun for me to try to put together. Jason wanted to pursue a whole campaign to promote the film with himself 'in character' - including changing our website, doing more interviews, stirring more controversy, etc. But I told him I couldn't get behind it so he's backed off the idea a little. Eh, whatever. We'll move on.

Hmmm, I'll have to go back and read part 2 of that interview then because, yeah. I just didn't get it. But then again, I don't totally get promoting a project in character unless you're Sascha Baron Cohen - and even then, it's uncomfortable.

Once Riley gets put together, let me know if you need fresh eyes on it. I know I wasn't able to get there to be some fresh eyes for White Man's World, but hopefully this time it wouldn't be as hard to schedule (for me - not you. LOL!) I'm sure it's weird seeing it in parts.
