Dahlia's 6 Month Appointment

Dahlia had her 6 month check up yesterday. Here are her stats:

Height - 25 1/4" - 18th percentile
Weight - 13lbs 14oz - 6th percentile
Head Circ - 17 1/4" - 76th percentile.

I used to joke about her "big brain" but now she has to go in for a CT scan because her soft spot feels "full." The doctor just wants to get it checked out now instead of waiting but it stresses me out beyond belief. She has to be sedated for the scan which I HATE the idea of on so many levels...and if they find something wrong? Well, I just can barely stand to think about that.

Otherwise developmentally she's doing great. She's doing all the things she should, she's growing as she should, even though she's a peanut. She babbles, and can sit up for about 1 second at a time, rolls both ways, makes eye contact & tracks things easily, passes objects from hand to hand, puts EVERYTHING in her mouth and is really very very sweet and such a good baby. Great disposition, lots of smiles & laughs. She's a doll and my little buddy for sure.

I can't help but feeling anxious though. *sigh*

In other news she GOBBLED up an entire jar of carrots last night. We couldn't shovel them in fast enough! She also pooped orange this morning. Lovely. At least we know things are moving right along!

The rainbow of poop once baby food starts? There's an art to that, you know!

And I know you're anxious. Poor thing. You. Now that I'm in healthcare, I will tell you that with babies, they want to check everything out JUST TO MAKE SURE. So, try to bear it and we'll be waiting for the results.

Amen to what Kate posted. Docs always err on the side of caution since little one's can't tell us what is happening and b/c there is so much going on with the peanuts. Ms. C has a big head too for her age. Maybe the damn head charts are off....

She sounds like a peach and I hope to see her again someday in person!!

I meant to say see her in person soon, since I haven't actually seen her in person. Oy. My brain has gone into the after-lunch food coma.

Ditto everyone else. I can't imagine how nerve wracking this is for you. The whole reason we have a 6th percentile, is because some kids fall into that category. If no one did, then Miss D. would be off the charts. But they are just checking to make sure, since everything else indicates she is doing great.

Ah the carrot poop.... I remember it well. Bridget still has rainbow poop, especially if she eats blueberries, which are a favorite.

I'm sure everything will be fine, but the waiting is not easy. Maybe they can sedate you too in the meantime.

Let me agree with all the other encouraging comments.

Try not to worry (I know that's impossible, but still...). I'm sure she's just fine. She sounds like she's doing great, and the doctor just wants to confirm that she's a healthy baby through & through!

okay, i'm so disturbed. the idea of a little tiny head scan and the sedation? yuck. i'm so sorry you have to go through that.

but like kate said, they are being extra cautious, and in the end you will be so grateful to know that the test was done and results confirmed that nothing is wrong.
