If we had a show on HGTV...

It would NOT be "The Speediest Home Improvers Ever!"

We are so. Ungodly. Slow. I hate it.

It took probably 6 months to get Dahlia's tiny room 'finished' (although we are still needing to hang one piece of art...).

It took months upon months for me to strip the wallpaper in our bedroom (it was the EVIL kind of wallpaper)...and we're still living in what looks like ruins from post-war Europe. Lovely. Relaxing. Soothing. Sheesh.

We have lived here for a year & a half & have ONE piece of artwork hung. WTH?

The baby's room is in process - we have a time limit on this - obviously. That wallpaper wasn't as hard to strip -but was a pain in my rear. My Dad painted it - YAHOOOOOO - when they were up watching Dahlia while we went up the shore in January. Thank God. I primed the nasty closet last Friday (well, most of it - I can't reach the upper parts) and Steve has started priming all the trim...but it is slow going. He is a perfectionist.

I primed the baby's dresser yesterday & hope to get it painted this weekend (my nesting instincts are really kicking in & it's TIME to get out the newborn clothes & fold them neatly in said dresser...for my piece of mind!). The crib is up, the dust ruffle is in place, we have a new rug, but there is still so much to do. Our dream is to have it DONE before Baby B #2 arrives...but I'm worried! I KNOW it will take twice as long to finish up after he/she arrives. I've done this before....

I need to find some artwork; we're debating (!) getting another glider because damn they are comfy & we're not sure what we'd use in Dahlia's room if we move the glider into the baby's room & we'd still like to have a snuggle spot in her room....

I should stop thinking - I get worked up.

I didn't mention the valance, the shelves in the closet, etc, etc, etc.....

Calm, my friend. You're okay. And you're getting it done at the speed you need to. Who cares if your wallpaper isn't done? Seriously. You'll get to it. Really. Believe me.

And my parents have lived in Austin this third time for 10 years now and are still asking me to come have a "hanging party" because they are terrible at placing artwork.

Me? I just throw shit on the wall and call it good. That's what MAKES it good.

We should look over our schedules and some afternoon or a Friday when I'm off, I will come over and help. Much more low-carb of a "date" than going out for dessert, right? :) Seriously though....if you're off on a Friday or can use help for a couple hours on another weekday afternoon, lets get it done!

A pandemic game time & conversation (via Zoom)   Well, we're about 13 months into this pandemic and I should've been back blogging then. I mean, I was home an awful lot. I could've done it. Penguin Shenanigans

For our 2020 Winter Reading program, there wasn't an overall theme. I decided to create my own theme. And the Penguins took over the library! I printed out real-to-life sized photographs of penguins...an Emperor, a Fairy, a Chinstrap and a Galapagos Penguin to be exact. I put them on the walls in one area. My hope was that kids would stand next to them and measure up - and they sure did! It put a smile on my face every time. Above each penguin I included some facts. Usually where they lived, what they ate and any quirky stuff about them. It's always great to be able to provide a little learning opportunity along the way. We also included penguin voting. I always think it's fun to add a pre-math activity when I can. I made 4 buckets with a photo of each of the aforementioned penguins. and IT'S A GIRL!! I'll do a proper introduction later and the whole story and everything but in the meantime, we had a baby girl. 2:15pm on Friday afternoon (I posted at, what? 10;30am? You do the math!!). Her name is Dahlia Marie and she weighed in at a whopping 6lbs even. 19 1/4" long and so incredibly gorgeous (although, I might be a wee bit biased). The birth was the most amazing experience I've ever been through and my mind is still, well, blown, quite frankly. I am so tired though...time for a quick nap before we try to feed again.
