Goodbye Reglan

I'm stopping the Reglan. I think it is making me depressed and it is not helping to increase my milk supply. It's also doing funky things to my GI tract which is lame so I'm done. I might try fenugreek again, or I might not. We'll see.

I hope (?) that it's the Reglan making me depressed and that will go away. I feel that I'm exhibiting all the characteristics of depression (loss of appetite, malaise, not connecting with my baby as I should be, sadness) and it's scary. I want it to go away. I want to be filled with rainbows and butterflies and all the good stuff that comes with a new baby.

This is scary and I don't like it one bit.

Oh Carrie. I'm sorry you're having those feelings. I can only imagine the rollercoaster ride that is new motherhood and you've certainly had your share of troubles! My friends always say it's at least 6-8 weeks before you feel the fog start to lift a little. Also, I had a friend who suffered from post-partum depression. She's a physician and it took her a while to realize it wasn't just normal ups and downs. If it's doesn't get better soon, maybe talking to your doctor would be helpful. Sending some hugs and naps your way!

It sucks that you are feeling this way, but I am so proud of you for being on top of these things.

how long have you been feeling this way? Hopefully stopping the Reglan will do the trick, but I was feeling down, postpartum, my benchmark was two weeks. If I felt down for two weeks, then it was time to go in for some psychological tuning.

I also didn't feel as connected with Relia as I thought I should until she was about 3 months old.

Take care, it will get better.

hugs from here too. it's tough stuff this new parenting stuff. the interrupted sleep doesn't help matters either.

i'm with sarah on this one too. it wasn't until ms. c was exhibiting some interaction (ie smiling at me) did i actually feel like i was her mother and not just some woman who was holding this child. i felt like the WORST mother in the world. how could i be feeling this way? i've come to learn that most mom's have this experience so don't be too hard on yourself! look at everything you are doing - you will get there!

Just to join in with the others I'll repeat what I said last night - I was in the same boat. It's reassuring to me, too, to hear Sarah and Holly had a similar lag in feeling the total devotion/bonding that you expect to feel right away.

HUGS!

Hope you are feeling better. Remember that taking care of yourself will in turn take care of the baby.

Let us know how you are doing.

Carrie - did anyone ever suggest brewer's yeast?

My doctors told me to try that with the fenugreek, and it did help a little. I bought the powder version & just tried to get a scoopful down with some orange juice or whatever. It's pretty nasty stuff, but it did the trick.

Back when my aunts were having babies they just drank a beer or two to get the milk going. I know they probably wouldn't suggest that now, but you never know what might work!

Glad you're going off the Reglan if it's not working with you. White light headed your way that it will make you feel better!
