Baby Update

The baby & I had an appointment yesterday - 18 weeks. I waited for a good 45 mins and saw the doc for about 5 so I guess the ratio I'm used to still holds true.

The baby is now about 5 1/2 inches long and weighs about 7 ounces (according to BabyCenter.com). Also he/she's about the size of a sweet potato!

Chick Pea has a healthy heart rate of 160bpm and is "VERY" active. My doctor had trouble keeping the little one on the doppler long enough to get the heart rate. I have yet to feel the little one move but my doc said if I lay in a quiet room for a little while and concentrate I should definitely be able to feel it. Eeeeek!

Yea! I am so excited that all is well with Chick Pea.

When you do feel it for the first time, you might not even know. For me I was at work, sitting at my desk, and it felt like little bubbles floating up the surface.

Ooohhh!! I've been waiting for one of these (baby updates that is... ;)). So glad to hear your baby is growing......I'm not surprised he/she's active. After all - look at his/her world travelling parents! ;)

So exciting! If I wanted to increase the chances of feeling the babe move OJ or some sort of juice usually did the trick. I'm so excited for you! I know you prolly have clothing from your sister but if you need anything else, let me know as I have winter stuff too for when you get bigger.

and IT'S A GIRL!! I'll do a proper introduction later and the whole story and everything but in the meantime, we had a baby girl. 2:15pm on Friday afternoon (I posted at, what? 10;30am? You do the math!!). Her name is Dahlia Marie and she weighed in at a whopping 6lbs even. 19 1/4" long and so incredibly gorgeous (although, I might be a wee bit biased). The birth was the most amazing experience I've ever been through and my mind is still, well, blown, quite frankly. I am so tired though...time for a quick nap before we try to feed again.

The Dreaded

So the time has come. The time that I've been dreading. The time to find some daycare for Miss Dahlia. I hate this. I wish I could stay home with her and devout all my attention to her but I can't. And because I can't, I have to find someone to look after her so that she DOES get loads of attention and I can work (and hopefully continue to bring home a paycheck). I don't know where to look. I don't know if I should try to find a home daycare or a center or a nanny. I don't know how I"ll be able to afford it. There are so many questions. There is a daycare a couple houses down from us (home) but I don't have a good feeling about it. Although it would be supremely convenient, I've never seen the kids play outside except when I've seen a couple of them (older) racing down the middle of the street unsupervised. I don't know. Just leaves me with a not-great feeling. I like the idea of finding a nanny type to come to our house, but I know it won...

May Day

when I was growing up it was common practice to do "May Baskets." Small, sometimes dixie cup sized, "baskets" filled with candy & a few treats. Maybe some flowers or something. No big deal, but it was fun. We used to deliver them to friends - ring the doorbell and run away. I don't really know the origins of this tradition - I'm guessing English/German/Scandinavian...but in Austin it was done - do any other Austinites remember this? When I moved to LA people had NO IDEA what I was talking about. Likewise here in Duluth. My husband thinks it just sounds weird...like, duh, Easter Baskets (they are so very different). One year, shortly after the Bogotts moved into their house by us, I found two small Easter baskets (or maybe it was just one, I don't remember) on our back patio.
