Postcards from Glensheen

Glensheen Mansion from the lake side So we made it to Glensheen today. No bike ride or picnic. Instead a nice hearty breakfast at Perkins. That worked. Looking down the main hallway from the living room. The tour was great, as usual. I think I have been there at least 6 times. The first was shortly after it opened (1979/80....?!) It is a beautiful home and I love all of the rich fixtures, decor and history. I wish I had longer to spend there. I wish I knew more about really how the family spent their 'every' day days there. My favorite room - the breakfast room The grounds are amazing - the vegetable garden makes me so envious! But holy hannah - they need to get in there and pick some produce! There are flowers upon flowers upon flowers. The formal garden screams to be photographed, the trails in the woods beckon you to explore. The kids really enjoyed the grounds, as did Steve & I. Yesterday was gorgeous (as was today) and Steve & I decided to go for a walk. Well, he wanted to do some trail maintenance on his adopted section of the Superior Hiking Trail and I was more up for a "stroll." So...we went to Hartley Nature Center together. I dropped him off at one end of the park. And I parked at the other end. I spent the next hour strolling at my own pace on flat trails taking lots of pictures; while Steve cleared sections of his trail and put up new "foot traffic only signs." It was nice to be out, exercising in the fresh air. But I do miss actually HIKING with my husband.

Thank you everyone for your kind words and indulging me on a day when I felt like crap crap crap. Things are a bit better today - because today's a new day! I made chicken curry last night for dinner - my first time making and practically eating it. It turned out good (a *gasp* microwave recipe from the Everyday Food weekly email newsletter). The sauce was sweet & had a kick (just enough for me to handle) but could probably be a little less sweet next time. After that I knitted while watching the "extras" on the first series of the Brit version of THE OFFICE (which I love love love!). Today - I biked to work, putzed around, walked to Canal Park where I met my old boss & an ex-coworker for lunch and took some photos along the way. Enjoy.
